Reviews
The ride itself is rather lack luster. 1 hour from Akron to Peninsula with 3 cool things to see-- Beaver Pond, the Cuyahoga River, and a huge pipeline. It was not what we were expecting. We did the dome seats, not sure they were worth the price, but my kids thought it was fun to look out anywhere and move around while the train moved.
The train needs some updating and some cleaning.
The volunteer staff was very kind and very knowledgeable.
Great time handicap accessible. And my son's first train ride( he is 3). The crew were super friendly and interacted with him like he was a king!
Tickets were sold out so plan ahead! Looked like a great train ride and pretty big/long train. Will definitely try again!
Peninsula gave out almost 9,000 tickets in the first six months the town had the speed photo camera. The town earned $500k. There are only 500+ residents in the town. The prosecutor says do not fight the ticket because you will not win. What kind of justice is this? I would suggest not visiting Peninsula.
We took a ride on the Nickel Plate 765 today! This was a nostalgic blast from the past! The steam engine whistle was so fun to hear. The trip included a great dinner and free drinks. This is right up there with my ride on the Goodyear blimp!!! Very fun day!!! I would highly recommend a ride!
Kind of cool to ride a train but not a lot to see except brush and kudzu. We only took the half loop from Peninsula to Akron and back. The website is super confusing. I don’t believe that I saw even one animal along the way but they did point out the oversized sewage line that is big enough to drive a car through.
Nice train ride. Peninsula now has ticketing cameras so if you’re unfamiliar with the area or are from out of town I recommend going to a different station to board or expect a surprise letter in the mail with a fine.
I’m not one to leave a bad review, however We paid for “first class” seats.. as we were leaving the man told us the car had no air conditioning and it was 82 degrees in our car, and 90 outside. We had to move to a different car, because it got so hot. It was so hot a family with us had a baby and the baby was sweating and had bright red cheeks. It was also mentioned the other cars were 20 degrees cooler than ours. The views are trees and homeless camps. Not worth the money at all, it was not very clean either.
